Will Poutler is your new Pennywise in Stephen King’s It

It by Stephen King is easily one of my favorite novels of all time. It has a rich story that is dangerous to adapt on film, not only because of its length (there was a TV mini series in the 90’s), but also because of its content. It is a violent book. The novel contains weirdest gore and what the main villain of the story does is just sick.

Tim Curry scared thousands of kids back in the day where he played Pennywise, the clown. Will Poutler from We’re The Millers will step in to fill those clown shoes. Poulter who also appeared in The Maze Runner gained the role in the old fashioned way: he had a great audition. The 22-year-old is in negotiations play the evil clown in the two movies that are planned by Warner Bros.

The first movie is directed True Detective’s Cary Fukunaga who originally wanted to Ben Mendelsohn to play Pennywise, but the actor went for a role in the first Star Wars Anthology film.

I think this is a good choice. He will look very creepy in make-up. The eyebrows would give a different touch to the clown. Poulter have shown great range. Maybe this version played by a younger actor could be great. Tim Curry’s legacy is very present today, but Poutler could own the role when the movie is released.

It should start filming this July.
