The Poltergeist trailer is here

By: Marv Castillo

They’re here. The poster and the first trailer.

Let me just say that the poster is quite good. I sell the trailer, I love Sam Rockwell, I believe he is one of the greatest actors working today, but this trailer scares me in the bad way. I’m afraid that the last act of this movie will be a CGI fest, and it seems it will be. Remember the original movie? There’s good stuff here, but way too many jump scares. The beginning was really nice, though, but I guess I will have to wait for more trailers to be excited for this remake.

Here’s the film official synopis:

Legendary filmmaker Sam Raimi (“Spiderman,” “Evil Dead”, “The Grudge”) and director Gil Kenan (“Monster House”) contemporize the classic tale about a family whose suburban home is haunted by evil forces. When the terrifying apparitions escalate their attacks and hold the youngest daughter captive, the family must come together to rescue her before she disappears forever.

First trailer for ‘Unfriended’ arrived

… and it’s really bad.

I like when movies fits in the era we are living in, using stuff like Skype, Twitter, Facebook or some of those platforms. ‘Unfriended’, which previously had the horrible title ‘Cybernatural’, relies completely on Skype and I’m very worried about that. I’ve heard this is actually a good movie with some great performances, but the acting looks really bad in what I saw in this trailer. The premise is very intriging, though.

I will not narrate the trailer, I’m just assuming you’re going to see. I feel that these 2:46 minutes tell way to much about the film. There’s so much in this trailer: death scenes, some creppy (and smart) stuff. But I also made some research and found some reviews from people who had the chance to watch this movie at Fantasia Fest, and turns out this is not telling the whole movie, but again, it tells way too much.

Lucky people who saw Unfriended last year say this is a good movie that manages to be clever, creepy and they say the relationship between the cast is very natural. Also, it has this anti-cyberbullying message which is good to hear.

But, not too fast, don’t make this a “new genre”.

This looks really bad: ‘Exists’ trailer hits the web

By: Marv Castillo

What the hell, man. Stop it already with the found-footage subgenre, or at least do something nice and original. Josh Trank and Max Landis gave me hope with their take on found-footage, but this trailer bored the crap out of me. We are talking about a trailer, I will eat my words if this is a great a movie, but this is really bad. This is not only found-footage, this is the typical teen horror movie we see everytime. A group of teens go to a cabin in the woods and then they get killed, one by one in “original” ways. In the trailer we can see five teenagers – or something like that – that find a super handsome sasquatch who will hunt them… just because. I guess. I don’t know, I have to see the movie.

Exists is directed by Eduardo Sánchez, he may sound familiar because he co-directed The Blair Witch Project. This film won the SXSW Audience Award, that’s why I said maybe I will eat my words in the future after watching the movie.

Anyways, there you go. Enjoy.
