One of the things that really sold me on a Suicide Squad live-action adaptation was the amazing cast that David Ayer got together. Unfortunately, Tom Hardy is leaving the project.
When I first heard the news, I entered in some kind of crisis, because Tom Hardy is a good actor. He is not only a great actor he knows how to choose projects, he has been amazing in every movie. So when I was about to read what the source had to say about his departure, I thought maybe he didn’t like the script or something, but no.
The reason why the actor left the Squad is because of heavy schedule. Alejandro González Iñarritu, the mind behind Birdman is making a new movie with Tom, called The Revenant, which is going over schedule into March and the Hardy has to promote Mad Max: Fury Road.
Probably Jake Gyllenhall will be taking over the role of Rick Flag and joing the Margot Robbie, Will Smith, Jai Courtney and the rest of the cast.
The Wrap is also reporting that Viola Davis is in negotiations to play Amanda Waller (where she fits perfectly) and Jesse Eisenberg is in talks to reprise his role as Lex Luthor in this movie.
Suicide Squad opens August 5, 2016
