Has G.I. Joe found a director for its third film?

By: Marv Castillo

This one comes from the guys at Schmoe Know. Personally, I find G.I. Joe as very uninteresting franchise. The first time it was announced, I was partially excited, maybe because this wasn’t a part of my childhood.

I gave a shot to the show, and I thought it would be make a good and entertaining movie, but the first adaptation didn’t feel right and the sequel tried it best to be good, but I didn’t think it was nice enough to keep the franchise going. Anyways, this is not like big news like the Guillermo del Toro’s script for the Justice League Dark live action adapation, but I know there’s some people out there really interested in these movies.

We don’t know much about the new screenplay, actually, we don’t know anything… but the director of Casino Royale and Green Lantern is the top contender for this gig. Who knows is Martin Campbell will be interested in a project like G.I. Joe? He knows how to keep situations grounded, just watch his take on 007, Casino Royale. Then, Green Lantern came out, which is already going to be rebooted and it came out on 2011. I’m not talking about a necessary reboot like Batman for the new DC Cinematic Universe. Green Lantern is getting rebooted because it was bad. I literally know only one person who loves that film, my best friend. That’s it. What I’m trying to say, is that Campbell is not the best guy, to disconnect us from reality. But, maybe he can make an outstanding job and he’ll save the franchise because things are not good for G.I. Joe, this is a Hasbro property that doesn’t have the same power as Transformers. You can really make this thing work out, it’s not that hard. I mean, if someone hires me to write the screenplay for G.I. Joe 3, I would probably do it.

But, who knows? Maybe he can mix some of his inspiration of his good movies and add some of that juice into this franchise.

Does Martin Campbell seem like a good choice to you?
