There’s this rumor that Spider-Man may crossover with the Marvel Studios The Avengers movies in the future, dropped by Drew McWeeny from HitFix. These are his words:
While I can’t get the confirmations I need to verify the story, I’m hearing that there are some very cool “Spider-Man” plans being discussed that would help Sony refocus their enormously important franchise while also opening up some connections in the onscreen Marvel movie universe that would blow fandom’s minds. Will it work out? I don’t know. I would love to be able to state for sure that it’s happening. What seems clear from what I’ve heard is that Marvel wants to be able to play with all of their characters, and if they can make that work creatively and on a corporate level, they will, and that means the world gets bigger again.
Spider-Man joining the Avengers is changing the game, this is something important for the franchises. However I’m not sure if I want to see this version of Spider-Man joining the Avengers. Marvel Studios is doing an amazing job with their own franchises and the character they own. It looks like Sony has no clue what to with our favorite wall-crawler.
I’ve heard from someone who works at Sony, that the studio is going to make some kind of reboot after the Sinister Six movie. According to the source, they want to bring a new actor to play Spider and the story basically is Spider-Man joining his villains to fight against a greater threat. I also read the same story from Devin Faraci from Badass Digest.
Also, Faraci heard more than I did, he claims that he heard three different plans. One of them is the one I just told you.
Sony wants to put the principal character of the franchise in the shelves for four or five years to see if they can move on with side characters of the Spiderverse.
Devin also says that he heard that, functionally, the Venom movie is dead again. Don’t be surprised if it gets pushed.
Take this piece news with a grain of salt, these are whispers, but with all the things we are hearing recently about Sony maybe this have some kind of truth behind it. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was poorly received by critics and fans the studio doesn’t have a clue right now. Would you really like to see Sony’s Spider-Man in the Avengers or is it going to be messy?
