Shazam is not part of DC’s Cinematic Universe

By: Marv Castillo

I knew it! When I reported yerterday that Dwayne Johnson was set to play Black Adam in the upcoming Shazam movie, I reminded every reader that this is a New Line film. So, what does it mean? Shazam is not going to show up in the Justice League movie, we will be able to see him fight Superman or something like that. This is a separate movie, not a part of the DC Cinematic Universe which started with Man Of Steel.

Toby Emmerich, the president of New Line talked to EW about the film:

“It’s a DC comic, but it’s not a Justice League character, and it’s not a Marvel comic. The tone and the feeling of the movie will be different from the other range of comic book movies,” he said, adding the movie “will have a sense of fun and a sense of humor. But the stakes have to be real.”

It seems that New Line wants to add some of that Marvel flavor into their movies, a different tone. Warner Bros. in the other hand, wants their superhero films to be serious and grim. A little who yells a magic word won’t fit that universe they’re building – but for some reason I think the old origin story is not going to be seen in the big screen, they will adapt the New 52 version of the character. However, these are my thoughts, who knows?

By the way, I made this quick Black Adam sketch just because The Rock will play the character, I hope you like it:
